All ages

The artists welcome you in a space where conviviality is like a church basement talent show. Doors open on their universe of experiments where the atmosphere vacillates between subtle and crude.

The dancers: Pax, Jigsaw and Sangwn are pillars of the hip-hop dance community in Montreal. As powerful as they are fragile, the long-time accomplices expose themselves to the witnessing glances while the musicians work the sound atmosphere with sensitivity and a committed presence. Together, they redefine their art by reconfiguring their sharing context.

Seeking to evoke an empathic reaction from their audience, the work is built less with artifices, approaching representation as a privileged moment of meeting, where the transparency of the performers touches on reality as much as on the ideal.

This project has received support from the Canada Council for the Art, from the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec and was part of  residencies at École de danse contemporaine de Montréal, Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Centre de création O Vertigo and Stable Studio.

Presented in collaboration with 100lux.

Sovann Rochon-Prom Tep, aka Promo, grew up immersed in Montréal's breaking community. He becomes a member of the Sweet Technique group, with whom he has participateds in many competitions over the years, further developing his talents. To date, he has chalked up over thirty victories and is frequently invited to participate in competitions around the world, either as a participant or as a judge. His passion for the mastery of the body spurreds him to enter the École de danse contemporaine de Montréal in 2011.  Since then, he has worked with Animals of Distinction, Castel_Blast, RUBBERBANDance Group, 14 Lieux, and Lilith & Cie. Sovann continues to refine his approach through his own creations and the different various workshops he teaches.

Sovann Rochon-Prom Tep creates work that foregrounds his collaborators’ experience both as people and as artists. His performers are his raw materials, becoming primary subjects in and of themselves, with their identities as incidental themes. The piece explores his subjects’ various desires to self-marginalize, confound, understand, impress, transform, and self-sacralize. This exploration starts with an intense observation of how communication occurs form one moment to the next. The momentary awareness observed is then channeled into a present-consciousness that feeds a renewed sense of being-oneself.
