Raw energy. Staccato, combat-like movements. The choreographer Lucy M. May meets 7Starr’s explosive force to present krump – a street dance born in the early 2000s. In a clash of darkness and incandescent light, powerful movement bursts forth. A krump pioneer and one of its magnetic icons, 7Starr stretches time as he slides from one figure to another in a dance of pure expression. A veritable vehicle for self-affirmation, the theatre is transformed into a darkroom, revealing and briefly capturing the dancer’s rapid shape-shifting. Galvanizing and liberating.

7Starr is a Canadian Krump pioneer. He co-founded the first Krump crew in Canada and the Montreal Krump Alliance, and created Gutta Zone, the first and biggest Krump event in the country. He has been a guest battle competitor and judge internationally. 7Starr is recognized for his community involvement in underprivileged schools, charity organizations and community centres and was a recipient of the 2017 Victor Martyn Lynch Staunton award.

Lucy M. May is a contemporary dance artist and writer based in Montréal. Her performances, including Vivarium and Esemplastic Landing, often ask how environments thread their way through human movement. Formerly a member of Compagnie Marie Chouinard, Lucy continues to perform independently with artists such as Margie Gillis. A graduate of LADMMI and CODARTS, and has practiced Krump since 2016. Her work has been presented in Quebec, Ontario, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Alberta, Saskatchewan and Sweden.
