This year, La Chapelle Scènes Contemporaines deepened its mandate as a bilingual venue, going beyond the broadcast of French and English-language works, as we have been doing for a very long time. In addition to presenting creations in several languages, La Chapelle now offers presentations translated into surtitling. For example, Corneille’s Le Cid, reviewed by Gabriel Plante, will be showing very soon on our stage in French, but two of these performances will be surtitled in English. While Clean Slate by Leslie Baker and Talisman Theater, will be presented in English with French surtitles on some nights.
Some performances are also alternating between French and English depending on the performance evening (Antonia Baehr's Abecedarium Bestiarium, Gerald Kurdian's Hot Bodies— Stand-Up), while others are totally bilingual (Youngnesse de projets hybris, OUFF by Alexis O'hara) or even plurilingual (Intersections by Mireille Camier and Ricard Soler).
This new way of democratizing more the cultural offer of La Chapelle is thus addressed to all; anglophones, francophones, school groups, curious, deaf or hearing impaired persons, etc.
