Brad Barr + Elizabeth Powell - Acoustic Sessions
This show is part of La Chapelle's acoustic sessions, an annual event, an invitation to hear today's music differently, in an intimate and refined experience, without microphone and closer to the artist.
Brad Barr of The Barr Brothers is equally at home in solemn Arcadian ballads, swampy North African improvs, or classic rock and roll revelry. He embraces and enchants audiences with his methodical-yet-whimsical approach to music making. Nominated and recipient of several ADISQ awards. Brad has also received several nominations for JUNO’s and the Polaris Prize.
Since forming Land of Talk in 2006, the one certainty in Elizabeth Powell’s life has been uncertainty, as her band has gone from being one of Montreal’s most brash, buzzy indie rock acts to one of its most elusive and enigmatic.
From Montreal to Orillia to Toronto to New Jersey and back to Montreal again, the story of Land of Talk’s latest LP Life After Youth resembles one of those Raiders of the Lost Ark maps with the red routing lines bouncing back and forth into a blur—“which is kind of like what my brain is like,” Elizabeth says with a laugh. But from that mental and geographic scramble, a work of great focus and clarity has emerged.
Following a career of much success – 3 full-length albums and 2 EP’s – all critically acclaimed - the original band are currently working on the 4th studio album in Montreal, QC – where they started from.
